FIRST (For the Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) is a nonprofit organization that serves to promote STEM education. They run three main programs: FIRST Lego League (elementary and middle school), FIRST Tech Challenge (grades 7-12), and FIRST Robotics Competition (high school).
Each January, FIRST Robotics Challenge (FRC) releases a brand new game, and participating high school teams are required to design, build, and program a robot to compete against other robots in this game. This “build season” ends 8 weeks later in March, where teams bring their robots to district and regional events to compete and play against one another. Successful teams at regional-level events qualify for the World Championship in May, which hosts 500+ teams from around the world.
FIRST also offers awards for teams who positively impact their community by spreading FIRST core values.
